The Le Mans 24H Cycling 4th edition took place on 25 and 26 August on the famous Bugatti track. Registration increased about 300 riders with 2087 participants coming from around 20 countries to compete after the, now traditional, “Le Mans style” start: 464 riders aligned in one side of the track and on the other side bikes hold by teammates.

After 232 tours (970km at 40.42km/h) and a final sprint, the Vulco Team stands out at the end of an intense fight against the Team RLM-Ohlmann, led by the Sarthois Julien Guay. The Lyonnais from VC Vaux en Velin: Lindsay, Trautmanis, Cassini and Lesschaeve won for the 3rd time whereas the RLM Ohlmann team has to get over with the trophy of best lap realized in 5’27.031. There was a strong wind this year. It manhandles riders and makes impossible for them to improve the record set in 2011 in 5’14.00 at more than 48hKm/h.

For its first participation, the other pretender to the victory, the Team Mondovelo led by Samuel Plouhinec, former French amateur Champion, ended the race at the 3rd place, one lap after the first. He said on the podium: “Not easy to sleep to recover between each relay, this is an odd race”.

This 2012 edition is a good one according to the organizers, always touched to welcome anonymous riders (men and women) from various profile: licensed cyclist, fireman, soldier, company colleagues, tri-athlete…. In spite of the team registration increase this year, rider’s cohabitation both on the track and in the pits was very good.

Erwan Lollierou ended first in the Solo category with 862Km and 82nd in the general ranking. This category is in one side because the 24Hours attract more teams than solo but it command admiration when you pass a rider with shirt number starting with “1” for “solo”. Sandrine Ferrant won in women category with 623Km in her mileometer, 386th in general ranking.

The Tri Poteuz team, first team 100% female ended in 235th place in general ranking with 753Km.

Tired but satisfied by the accomplished work, most of them promised to come back in 2013.
