Treviso, 3rd December 2015 – D+ Ultracycling Dolomitica turns over a new leaf. The 2016 edition of what is known as the hardest cycling competition in the world will take place on a different date and will have a new start and finish point.
The event will take place from Friday 26th to Sunday 28th August and not at the beginning of September as in the first two editions. The starting point will no longer be Conegliano but Cison di Valmarino, in the province of Treviso, at the heart of Veneto region, the more tourist region of Italy. The finish will also be in Cison di Valmarino.
“We thank Cordignano for the assistance offered during the first two editions of D+ Ultracycling Dolomitica - explains Giorgio Bosi, one of the organizing managers of the event - But we felt the need to change: we like the idea that, over time, the event becomes itinerant, moving to the various towns of Treviso area which can be found along its course. In any case, the course will go through Cordignano, and we are thinking of having a timed stage there".
Cison di Valmarino is part of the “Finest Villages of Italy” list and it will be able to welcome the entrants of the 2016 edition of D+ Ultracycling Dolomitica at best. It will also offer an evocative setting to a competition which will fill central Piazza Roma for a whole weekend with its start, finish and side events.
The course of D+ Ultracycling Dolomitica (which also in 2016 will be dedicated to Vito Favero, the heroic Treviso cyclist of the past) will not change. The competition - whose 2015 edition has been won by Omar Di Felice and German athlete Christina Rausch – will unwind along 606 kilometres through Veneto, Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Trentino-Alto Adige, and it will cross six provinces (Treviso, Vicenza, Belluno, Trento, Bolzano and Pordenone) and 76 Municipalities.
There are also the same 16 mountain and Dolomites passes to climb for a total difference in rise of about 16 thousand metres: San Pellegrino, Fedaia, Pordoi, Giau and Staulanza are only some of the legendary efforts the entrants of D+ Ultracycling Dolomitica will have to face.
You can apply to enter from 28th November. The long countdown has begun. For further information visit www.ultracyclingdolomitica.com.
