24 Hours Cycling Race 2011 Le Mans
Am 20. und 21. August 2011 wird am legendären Bugatti Circuit wieder das 24-Stunden Rennen ausgetragen. Bereits 383 Teams mit 1748 Teilnehmern haben sich registriert.

The 3rd edition of the Le Mans 24 Hours Cycling race will be held on the 20th and 21st of August, competition for teams of 2, 4, 6, 8 or solo riders. Daniel Mangeas, the « Voice of the Tour de France », will order the start to riders coming from 71 departments and 12 countries on the Bugatti Circuit at 3.00 pm. This year, riders have to beat the team Vulco’s record: 975 kilometers with 233 tours and a average speed of 40.520 km/h.
About a hundred of women will be there with a team of 4, 3 of 6 and 4 of 8. New in 2011, a special trophy has been created for the best one. Among them there are three solo women! Frederique Bastien, 2010’s winner with 129 tours, will try to keep her title.
Among 150 foreign riders, we can see new nationalities: Denmark, New-Zealand, Portugal and Scotland, in about thirty teams.
Famous sport’s personalities will also be there, first of all the cycling riders like Roger Legeay, the 1997’s World Champion Laurent Brochard, Bruno Boscardin, Patrice Halgand, Eric Leblacher or Thierry Marie, Yellow Jersey of the Tour and winner of stages. He’s always getting the 2nd record of the Tour’s longest solo escape with 234 km.
As we are in Le Mans, mechanic sports are also represented with Stéphane Sarrazin, official Peugeot’s pilot and 2009 24H Cycling race’s second rider. Yvan Muller, 2008’s and 2010’s FIA WTCC World Champion and Andros Trophy Ice racing’s record-holder for wins, wants to “have some fun” during the race. We also welcome the team Moto Revue with moto riders as Régis Laconi and his colleagues.
A nice popular party will take place in the Village, where you will find an exhibition of the Cycling Museum, some tastings, animations and cycling tests. Available for the contestant to test on the track, several bikes will be equipped by the new Shimano’s electric shifting system: the « DI2 ».
Much appreciated in 2010, two accesses along the track have been opened for visitors. Spectators will be closed to the race and then applause riders when they will jump in Dunlop’s bend, main difficulty of the Le Mans race track. Entrance to the circuit is free for visitors!
